Afghan Women Learning & Empowerment Organization (AWLEO) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating, empowering, and elevating Afghan women and girls through learning, opportunity, and community support.
Founded in 2022 and officially incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 2026, AWLEO was established with a vision of restoring hope and creating opportunities for women and families whose lives have been disrupted by conflict, displacement, and limited access to education.
We believe that education is one of the most powerful tools for breaking the cycle of poverty and creating lasting change. By investing in women, we strengthen families, build resilient communities, and help shape a brighter future for the next generation.AWLEO serves Afghan women and girls by providing educational opportunities, English language instruction, vocational training, leadership development, digital literacy, financial literacy, and mentorship. Our programs are designed to help women gain the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to become economically independent and active leaders within their communities.
While women in Afghanistan continue to face significant barriers to education, employment, and equal opportunities, many Afghan women who have resettled in the United States, Canada, and other countries also encounter serious challenges. Adjusting to a new culture often involves learning a new language, finding employment, navigating unfamiliar systems, and balancing childcare and family responsibilities. These challenges can contribute to social isolation, financial hardship, and increased stress that affects overall well-being.
AWLEO is committed to helping women overcome these barriers by providing supportive educational programs and practical resources that foster confidence, independence, and community connection. By empowering mothers through education and workforce development, we also help strengthen families and create greater opportunities for future generations.
Through collaboration with community partners, volunteers, donors, and supporters, AWLEO strives to build a future where every Afghan woman and girl has the opportunity to learn, lead, and succeed.
To educate, empower, and elevate Afghan women and girls by expanding access to education, workforce development, leadership opportunities, and community support while promoting dignity, self-reliance, and lifelong learning.
A world where Afghan women and girls have equitable access to education, meaningful employment, leadership opportunities, and the resources they need to build independent, thriving lives and contribute to stronger communities.
We believe meaningful empowerment goes beyond providing short-term assistance.
Our approach focuses on giving women knowledge, practical skills, confidence, mentorship, and access to opportunity so they can create sustainable change in their own lives.
By investing in women, we also invest in families.
When mothers gain education, develop workforce skills, and become economically independent, they are better positioned to support their families and create greater opportunities for their children.
AWLEO primarily serves Afghan women and girls, including those living in Afghanistan and Afghan women rebuilding their lives after resettlement in countries such as the United States, Canada, and other communities around the world.
Our goal is to meet women where they are and provide the education, resources, and support they need to move toward greater confidence, independence, and stability.
